The event

In its eighth year as a premium partner of photography in Zingst, Olympus once again expands its local activities, underlining the importance of the festival: for visitors, for the town and also for the company. The 2018 theme for the Olympus exhibition is »light and shadow«. As central elements of photography, light and shadow are intrinsically joined together. It is the deliberate contrast between light and dark that gives rise to special photographic moments.
Olympus and Zingst are bound together by a long and fruitful partnership. The camera manufacturer has been committed to Zingst and the »horizons zingst« Environmental Photo Festival for the past eight years, and the Olympus Community exhibition has been an established fixture of the festival since 2011. The Olympus exhibition will display a selection of the best submissions to the OM-D, PEN and E system photo competition, organised by Olympus Deutschland GmbH and the Kur- und Tourismus GmbH, Zingst.
Elisabeth Claußen-Hilbig, Communications Manager Press and Public Relations for Olympus Deutschland, has the following to say about the choice of »light and shadow« as the theme for the 2018 photo competition: »Once again, we deliberately chose a very open theme that, on the one hand, would appeal to as many photo fans as possible, and, on the other, offers room for a broad range of interpretations. We received many creative submissions, which will ensure a colourful exhibition with contributions from all areas of photography.« The enthusiastic outcome demonstrates how pleased participants were with the proposed theme! An enormous spectrum of creative motifs were submitted to the competition, capturing and interpreting the concept of light contrasted with shadow. Contemporary camera technology was used to depict many possible interpretations on this theme: everything from consistently thought-through images of objects to a diversity of natural phenomena; all illuminating the theme »light and shadow«. A jury made up of festival organisers, photographers and representatives from Olympus, chose 40 outstanding pictures from among all the submissions. The three participants with the best results will be invited to Zingst for the »horizons zingst« Environmental Photo Festival, and can also look forward to attractive prizes in recognition of their work.
