The International Competition of Nature-Photography "Glanzlichter of Nature-Photography" (which means "Highlights of Nature-Photography") is one of the biggest photo contest in the field of nature photography in Germany. Since 2002 the exhibition of Glanzlichter is present at the Photokina at the Passage 4/5 east.
This competition of nature photography exist since 1999. The prize money of 28,000 euros will be provide by the photographic industry. Deadline for the 2019 Highlights Nature Photo Competition is March 31, 2019. The new competition rules are available in four languages. Since 2006 this competition has been awarded patronage by the "German Association for Photography" (DVF).
In 2017 20.162 images were submitted by 1,059 photographers from 35 countries. The result is an impressive proof of the high reputation of the Glanzlichter and clearly proves the appreciation of this German nature photography competition for years.These facts clearly demonstrate what appreciation the largest German nature photo competition enjoys for years.
Barbara Hendricks, former Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, has again assumed the patronage for this year's Glanzlichter.
There are pictures in eight categories awarded, nine highlights and one category winner. The categories are landscape photography, plant photography, nature as art, bird photography, mammal photography and all other animals. The two special categories had the themes: moving water and sleeping animals.
"Glanzlichter 2017 All Over Winner" was Marcio Cabral from Brazil with "Foraging with lighting".
After it was find out in May 2018 that the image was manipulate, the photographer was strip of the prize.
"Glanzlichter Junior Photographer of the Year 2017" is the 13 year old Lasse Kurkela from Finland with his picture "Who's there?"
The special prize in memory of the great German nature photographer Fritz Pölking, who has given decisive impulses over decades of nature photography with his ideas, contributions and photos and suddenly died in 2007 is established in 2008.
"Glanzlichter Fritz Pölking Award Winner 2017" Roberta Pagani from Italy won this award with her picture "Where is my swimming trunks?"
The exhibition is printed on Alu-Dibond by the main sponsor CEWE.
All pictures will be exhibit at Photokina 2018 from 26.-29.9.2018 in passage 4/5 east. The exhibition offers daily guided tours with detailed explanations of some pictures. Visitors have possibility to contact the present organizers of the competition Mara Fuhrmann and Udo Höcke at the exhibition.
