»Heroes« – an OLYMPUS Community competition

When it comes to the use of OLYMPUS cameras, contemporary amateur photography is defined by spontaneity. This exhibition is characteristic of this fresh and unconventional style, and presents photos of everyday heroes, both big and small.

The OLYMPUS Community’s photo exhibition in its current format has been a fixed feature of the festival for five years now. Contemporary amateur photography – spontaneous, fresh and unconventional. It presents the best submissions to a competition launched by OLYMPUS and Experiential Photography Zingst for OM-D and PEN users. With the 2016 theme of »HEROES«, the show includes pictures of everyday heroes, both big and small, selected from hundreds of submissions from all over Europe. The photos can be seen at the Steigenberger Strandhotel. The vernissage will take place on May 29, 2016, at 13:00, in the presence of the winners: José Santos (1st place), Gerhard Busch (2nd place) and Max K. Schaub (3rd place). Compared, for example, to the theme of last year’s competition, »Magic Moments«, this year’s »HEROES« allows for the development of even greater pictures, creative applications and the spontaneous recording of lively situations. Supported by innovative technologies, amateur photography has not only developed new imagery, but also produces pictures that go way beyond simple personal interest, and are truly »SEEworthy«, in the broadest sense of the word. Olympus cameras have become a positive engine in the drive to produce new, refreshing images. This trend is very obvious and, with regard to enduring, interesting types of photography, it is a counterweight to popular and superficial smartphone snapshots.
