Youth photography at the highest level
The German Centre for Youth and Children's Films (KJF) is presented the German Youth Photography Prize 2016 at photokina.

KJF, July 2016. Thousands of images, photography books and collages: with more than 11,000 works, the German Youth Photography Prize registered twice as many submissions as in the previous year. The best works have been exhibited from 20 to 25 September at photokina in Cologne (Hall 9.1 / A51-59). The 40 prizewinners looked forward to prizes with a total value of more than 13,000 Euro. The prizes will be awarded on 25 September. The competition is organised by the German Centre for Youth and Children's Films (KFJ) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The concluding event is sponsored by the Ministry for Youth of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In search of the special photo
The prizewinners between the ages of 7 and 25 demonstrated their creativity in various categories. For the theme "Sound in Sight", the imaginatively transformed the audible into images. In the category "Next Level", they experimented with the creative possibilities of digital imaging. The youth photographers also convinced the expert jury called by Federal Minister Manuela Schwesig in the section "Free theme choice". "The young people very consciously seek out that special image. To them, photography is primarily a medium for expressing themselves artistically", the jury speaker Julia Fassbender from the Federal Press Office summarises. This estimation is also shared by the competition head Jan Schmolling, who adds: "This time again, the German Youth Photography Prize at photokina wil, present fascinating pictorial worlds."
The German Youth Photography Prize was founded in 1961 by the Federal Ministry for Youth Affairs and is one of the largest and most renowned competitions. It promotes young talent and reinforces educational work with photography. Partners of many years are the Photoindustrie-Verband e.V., which honours the best photo groups, and photokina. The "German Youth Photography Prize 2016" exhibition is part of the international photography scene in Cologne.
