photokina 2018: Tips and Tricks for Professionals

When the international imaging industry meets for photokina in Cologne from 26 to 29 September 2018, the focus will be on the trends of professional photography: with the PROFESSIONALS STAGE, photokina offers visitors a high-class format in hall 2.1, with current and practically-oriented live lectures for all photographers who turn their passion into a career. Ambitious photography enthusiasts also have the opportunity to have their portfolios looked at and to receive advice in the PROFESSIONALS LOUNGE.

On the PROFESSIONALS STAGE, international speakers present the most important trends from marketing, self-marketing, image culture, rights to images, as well as the themes of social media and new business models for pros. Themes include "Photography law – Photo rights and social media", "Earn money with stock photography" (both 27.9.), "More customers for creatives" or "The leap into self-employment – which offerings young photographers should make use of“ (both 29.9.). The events on the PROFESSIONALS STAGE 2018 are framed by awards presented by national and international photographer associations.

More highlights for ambitious photo enthusiasts

In the PROFESSIONALS LOUNGE (Hall 2.1, stand A 006), everything also revolves around professional photographers and their future business. All interested photographers have the possibility here to present their works to renowned contact persons from the industry in the context of a free portfolio viewing. Experts provide advice on portfolio presentation, positioning of work and measures for establishing networks, among other topics. In addition, the professional associations will also respond to questions.

With the WEDDING ZONE in hall 4.2., a special area for the theme of wedding photography & video was created this year. Wedding photography is one of the most attractive segments for professional photographers. Together with the partner FotoTV, events in the city will be organised in addition to an attractive stage programme and a networking forum. The highlights of the WEDDING ZONE are the German Wedding Meetup (27.9.) and the presentation of the BRAUT FOTO AWARD of Braut & Bräutigam magazine (28.9.).

PICTURES by photokina

photokina 2018 presents a large number of captivating photo exhibitions distributed throughout the entire fair grounds and in various squares in Cologne, which can also serve as inspiration for one's own creative work. The following, among other things, can be seen under the umbrella of "PICTURES by photokina": "Atlas of Humanity“, Tim Flachs "In danger – portraits of endangered animals", "United Nations – People on the Move", "The German Youth Photo Prize 2018" and "The New BFF Sponsorship Award". A special highlight can also be found on the Ottoplatz in front of the Deutz train station with the exhibition of Ray Collins – "Primal force of the sea". PICTURES thus shows the life and work worlds of various continents, peoples and generations from many perspectives. Many exhibitions are the result of competitions for pros or hobby photographers.
