ProfiFoto New Talent Award

The internationally renowned ProfiFoto New Talent Award - powered by Canon - (NTA), which was launched at photokina 2006 as >Canon Profifoto Förderpreis<, presents the 20 award-winning young photo projects since the last World of Imaging in an exhibition at photokina 2018.
For twelve years, the NTA, a photo competition for talented photographers organized and advertised twice a year by Canon and ProfiFoto magazine in cooperation with the Laif and Whitewall photo agency, afford the opportunity for aspiring photographers to find support with the implementation of their "Images in the Mind".
The prize is awarded every six months by a renowned jury to five applicants whose photographic handwriting is convincing and whose concepts arouse curiosity for more. Once a year, the three Best of Best projects are selected, which are rewarded with 3,000 euros in cash.
At the photokina in Cologne from 26 to 29 September in the passage between exhibition halls 4 and 5, a total of 20 winning projects from the 2017/2018 competition tenders can be seen. A total of several thousand participants have applied for the prize since 2006. The increasing internationality of the competition was demonstrated by submissions from Mongolia, Australia, Ukraine, Finland and Peru, among others. The average age of the applicants is 32 years, about 60 percent are students.
The spectrum of the award-winning projects ranges from hard reports, computer-constructed subjects and elaborate staging to very personal insights into the life and thought world of the photo professionals. What they all have in common is the unmistakable visual language of the participants, which has justified the trust placed in them in all cases.
The prints shown in Cologne are produced by the online profile laboratory Whitewall.
