photokina academy

For the photokina organizers, the field of education and further education is a most important part of the trade fair. The support and development of young photographers as well as the contribution to the further development of trained professionals are a main focus.

The exhibition area photokina academy has been regarded as one of the ultimate highlights of photokina since 2006. In the last few months about 50 universities, academies, universities of applied sciences and private colleges from Germany and the rest of Europe had submitted their application.

The first jury meeting of the event photokina academy took place on 13 January 2012 and was very successful. The submitted projects and concepts for this year's motto "in/visible" were great and provoked interesting topics of conversation. The following fifteen universities were nominated by the jury:

  1. Nominated universities from Germany:

    • Burg Giebichenstein, University of Art and Design Halle
    • University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld
    • University of Applied Sciences Dortmund
    • University of Applied Sciences Hannover
    • Braunschweig University of Art
    • Academy of Media Arts Cologne
    • Berufsausbildungszentrum Lette-Verein (Training Centre Lette-Association)
    • Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design
    • University Hildesheim
    • Weissensee Kunsthochschule Berlin

  2. Nominated universities from Europe:

    • Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland
    • Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts, Turkey
    • Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School, Poland
    • University of Derby, Great Britain
    • University of Sunderland, Great Britain

The winners can present themselves to the public and to the international trade experts. Each university will get one of the popular stand spaces in the area of photokina academy.

Out of these fifteen universities, the three best presentations of the year 2012 are being selected in a second step. The winners are rewarded with € 6,000 prize money which is kindly provided by the Photographic Industry Association.

The photokina team congratulates all winners and is looking forward to a successful cooperation for photokina 2012!
